Most inkjet printers under £ 100 using four colored ink to print documents, and photographs. These cheap printers also tend to use only one ink cartridge two cartridge for black ink, and a second ' tri-color ' cartridge that holds the cyan, magenta and yellow ink for color printing.
The Premium expression of Epson's XP-530 is an exception to that rule. It is still very affordable, around £ 90 from a number of online retailers but, as the name suggests, it is also a ' premium ' printer that uses five ink to improve the quality of your prints. There is a conventional black ink cartridge for printing simple text documents, but cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges equipped with photo-black ink ' extra ' that is designed specifically for printing photos.
The results are quite impressive, with a fluent text output laser quality not quite but still should be more than enough for most home users. Color images also work well, so that the XP-530 will be a good option for students who need to print reports, or workers who want to print the occasional marketing brochures. Print speed for both types of documents comes in about nine pages per minute, which is also very honored to printers in this price range.
However, it is the output photo printers that really shines. Additional photos of black ink that adds crispness and contrast photo prints, while printer 5760x1440dpi resolution ensures that the image is sharp and detailed. And, at just 34 seconds for postcard 6x4in, XP-530 also proves fast when stirring your holiday snaps.
The only drawback here is that using a five-ink print costs can push a little. Using the standard Epson's black ink cartridge for printing the text worked out at a hefty 3.8 p per page, which is not worth it at all. Using XL cartridges high yields carry that to 2.7 p per page, which is still a little higher than we would like but not expensive luxury.
