The HP LaserJet 2420dn offers a lot more capability than you might expect from its small size. Weighing in at just 33.5 pounds and taking up just 10.2 by 16.7 by 15.7 inches (HWD), it's light enough for one person to move around and small enough to sit on your desk. But inside the box is a 30-page-per-minute (ppm) engine that cranks out paper faster than most other printers, including some with faster engine ratings.
Text quality earned an excellent rating, with all fonts easily readable at 6 points or smaller, and more than half easily readable at 4 points. Graphics earned a good rating, with several minor flaws, including minor visible dithering patterns, but no major problems. Photos rated at the high end of fair, held back primarily by visible dithering. The OKI B6300n offers similar overall quality scores, with a slightly better rating for photos and a slightly worse rating for graphics.
Given how quickly the 2420dn can work though a stack of paper, the default 350-sheet capacity, including the 100-sheet multipurpose tray, and the maximum capacity of 850 sheets if you add a 500-sheet tray , seems relatively meager. The OKI B6300n, in contrast, offers a maximum capacity of 1,800 sheets. But if you want lots of speed, high quality, and don't have to print all that many pages every day, the HP LaserJet 2420dn may be just the right printer for your small office or workgroup.
